Dell Acquires SonicWALL
DYNAMIC SECURITY FOR THE GLOBAL NETWORK

SonicWALL, Inc. is a private company headquartered in San Jose, CA. SonicWALL is a global leader in advanced network security, secure remote access, and data protection. SonicWALL was co-founded by two young hyderabadi brothers, Mr. Sreekath Ravi and Mr. Sudhakar Ravi in 1991 to develop Ethernet and Fast Ethernet cards, hubs and bridges for Macintosh computers.

SonicWALL sells a wide range of internet appliances primarily directed at content control and network security. As a variety of high-speed and Internet connections proliferated in the US market, the demand for SonicWALL’s firewall products rose exponentially. The company is actively providing services in the areas of network firewalls, unified treat management, virtual private networks and back up recovery. Sonicwall has 130 patents in its portfolio with 950 employees.

Dell’s acquisition of SonicWALL:

Dell has announced the acquisition of Sonicwall on March 13, 2012 and closed the acquisition deal on May 9, 2012. The strategy behind the acquisition of the company by dell is to expand its enterprise solutions portfolio to offer customers a complete range of products and solutions to help its customers to simplify their IT infrastructure management.  SonicWALL’s dynamic network security and data protection tools enable Dell to offer a comprehensive next-generation firewall and unified threat management solutions to its clients. Dell would also expand its services in the areas of email security, remote accessing, and backup and recovery management.

“Customers who are looking for simplified and comprehensive security solutions will benefit from the addition of SonicWALL to our software portfolio. The combination of SonicWALL with Dell’s existing security offerings and broad market reach will help customers securely manage their data, securely manage consumer devices being brought into their enterprise, and securely expand their applications to the cloud.”
